Living History Tours of Ithaca

Explore the "colorful characters of Ithaca's past" in a guided living history 'ghost walk' through downtown Ithaca. 

On this leisurely 45-minute guided walking tour, you will hear about the rich and fascinating history of our fair city, with tales of the Iroquois Settlement along Cayuga Lake, Cornell University,  silent movie stars, as well as the successive waves of teamsters, gamblers, bootleggers, cockfighters, students and the reformers who tried to salvage the damage.

Guests will encounter reenactments and vignettes along the tour, with a chance to ‘meet’ some of the colorful characters who helped shape the cultural, political and social landscape of Tompkins County.

This tour is a great add-on evening experience for out of town guests looking for a unique and fun activity after a day of touring!

Sponsored by the History Center, public tours run Thursday evenings in July and August at 6:00 pm, 7:00 pm, and 7:30 pm.  .  Private tours of 8 or more guests can be reserved throughout the year.  Reservations and advanced ticket sales required at least one week in advance for all tours. 

 

All tours leave from the Bernie Milton Pavillion on the Ithaca Commons, located outside Center Ithaca.

Wear comfortable walking shoes.  Rain gear will be provided in the event of rain.

 Price: $15 per person; $10 for children 12 years and younger.  Discount group rates available on request.
